Confessionals
Feb 13 2012 4:10 PM
I have been working on some videos with my friend and photographer Steven Bush (stevenbush.org) for local Austin artists we are calling "Confessionals". The idea is simple: one fluid take or a musician (usually a singer/songwriter) performing his or her song. No video cuts, no audio editing.
The idea came when we realized that photo shoots were not exactly useful for musicians anymore - image definitely plays a part, but it doesn't allow you to hear the music. And in a world with so much "image noise", standout artists often get lost in the mix. Confessionals give artists a chance to stand above the crowd - it puts forth an image of the artist while showing what they are capable of. The film should present the song in a simple, straightforward, but elegant way, letting the artist and song shine - not the high-budget production.
Here are some examples:
David Ramirez - "Stick Around"
Penny & Sparrow - "Creature"
Matt McCloskey - "Into The Light"
