For sale is a like-new Neve 8424 console with a custom-built 20RU desk. I bought this desk in 2022 direct from AMS Neve (via Sweetwater) when I had a full facility studio. Since then, I’ve moved into a smaller space where I just don’t utilize the full functionality of the console anymore. I’d rather it be used to its full capacity and downsize to what I currently need.
The Neve 8424 is built for hybrid studios that already have/employ a lot of outboard preamps, but still need the routing/analog capabilities of a large format console as well as the need for built-in active automation. In other words, it has three main “layers” that you can flip between at the push of a button: 1) input/recording for routing, cues, fader level etc.; 2) analog mixing/summing/outboard routing (up to 48 channels); 3) DAW control of faders, sends, pans, etc. (think an Avid S6). All three layers have recall via Neve’s app (DAW recalls straight from your session). Additionally, you can set up each channel to operate on different layers (DAW layers come in buckets of 8). So, for example, you may have a combination of inputs and returns on Channels 1-16, and set up 8 DAW faders on Channels 17-24, et al.
Features:
– (2) 1073 preamps built in that can be routed channels 17-18
– (4) Groups for VCA type grouping. Each group features low shelf and high shelf, as well as routing options.
– (2) 500 series slots that can be used in just about in any capacity (insert on two channels, insert on two groups, bus compressor, even two preamps, etc.) The 2 API EQs in the picture are not included.
– Flying faders for recall and hands-on automation.
– Master section has a low shelf, high shelf, and classic Neve widening.
– (2) built in DIs that can be routed to channels 19-20.
– full monitoring section with switch-ability between three inputs and three outputs; two talkback systems
– full midi control via ethernet/USB
In short, think of it as a mix between a regular large format console, an Avid S1/S3/S6, and a summing mixer.
Everything works great on this console: no issues whatsoever. Always used in a non-smoking space and well-taken care of. AMS Neve support has been great when I originally had a couple of questions about it and setting up the DAW layer; they’re very responsive.
In addition, I’ll throw in the custom desk that I built for it (Neve’s option is a simple Z-stand that costs $1k!). This desk is a solid wood desk (painted a slate gray) that boasts 20RU for gear in the front, 4RU in the back (for power supplies or gear you don’t need to tweak often), and a shelf in the back for keeping cables up off the ground.
Serious parties may schedule a time to come check out the desk (in Dripping Springs, TX). This is available ONLY FOR PICKUP in the Austin, TX and immediately surrounding areas. Depending on your location, I may deliver or meet you halfway. You will need a large SUV/van for both items. Contact me with any questions.
